FAQs for Curious Dog Owners
We’ve rounded up the questions we hear most from dog owners (about how our training works, what it costs, what to expect, and how it all comes together) so you can feel confident about your next step.
Where are the training sessions held?
For the specific location of your training lesson, contact your local OLK9 certified trainer. You can also directly contact us at (206) 660-2600 for more information.
How does an e-collar work?
You can think of e-collars as a tap on the shoulder. It’s just enough to get your dog’s attention when they’re tuned out. Our e-collars don’t “shock” or hurt your dog. They use gentle, adjustable levels of stimulation. You’ll actually test it on yourself before your dog ever wears it. It becomes a clear communication tool that makes off-leash training not only possible but consistent and safe. We’ll show you how to use it the right way and with your dog’s well-being in mind.
Does my dog need to wear the e-collar forever?
Not necessarily. During training, it helps build consistency and helps your dog learn faster. But once your dog has proven they’re solid with commands, especially off-leash, you’ll use it less and less. Many of our clients end up keeping it on just during hikes or trips for extra backup, but around the house or neighborhood? Often, it’s not exactly a necessity.
Can you handle aggressive/reactive dogs?
Yes. In fact, we have plenty of experience working with these types. A lot of the dogs we work with have bite histories, reactivity issues, or are just unpredictable in certain situations. We teach them better ways to handle the world, and we also teach you how to guide them through it. Our aggressive dog training program is structured to go at your dog’s pace. We’ve helped hundreds of dogs calm down, trust again, and become far easier to live with.
What kind of results should I realistically expect?
Our goal is 100% obedience, 100% off-leash, and 100% distraction-proof. That’s the bar we train for. But like any relationship, your results will also depend on what you put in. The more consistent you are at home, the better your results will be. We’ll give you the tools to keep things going, and you’ll walk away with a dog who listens, respects you, and enjoys the structure.
What is included in each training package?
Each program is different, but they all come packed with real value. Most of our obedience packages include:
- One-on-one private lessons
- A professional-grade e-collar
- A 15-foot leash
- Support after lessons
- A plan built just for your dog
For more details, feel free to check out our plans and pricing page.
Do you offer payment plans or financing options?
Yes! We know that good training is an investment, and we want to make it work for your budget. If you’d prefer to break things up into smaller payments, let us know during your consultation, and we’ll explain what’s available.
Are there any surprise fees I should know about?
No, the price listed for each program already includes your gear and training. The only time we might charge extra is if your location requires significant travel, but in such cases, we’ll talk about those charges before anything is booked.
What’s your cancellation policy?
We hold spots for every client, which means once you’re scheduled, that slot is yours. If you need to cancel or reschedule, let us know as soon as possible.
Do you ever offer discounts or deals?
From time to time, yes. It might be a seasonal special, a referral offer, or something specific to a certain service area. Your best bet is to keep an eye on our website, follow us on social media, or just ask us during your consultation. We’re happy to let you know if anything’s ongoing at that moment.
How do I get started with booking a program?
Just call or text us at (206) 660-2600, send an email to seattle@olk9.com, or fill out our contact form online. We’ll ask a few quick questions about your dog and what you’re hoping to accomplish.
How far in advance should I book?
If you’re thinking about a board and train program, we recommend reaching out at least 3-4 weeks in advance, especially during busier months. Private lessons usually have more flexibility but fill up quickly.
What happens after I book?
We’ll send you a confirmation and let you know what to expect for your specific program. For Board & Train clients, you’ll get details on what to pack, drop-off instructions, and when to expect updates. For private lessons, we’ll give you your trainer’s info and how to prepare for that first session.
Can I request a specific trainer?
You can absolutely let us know if you’ve got a preference, especially if you’ve spoken with someone before or got recommended a specific trainer. That said, we assign trainers based on your dog’s needs and who on the team is best equipped to handle it. But yes, if it matters to you, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.
Do you offer in-home training?
Yes, we do! In-home sessions are great for working on behaviors that show up at home, such as door manners, barking at windows, jumping on guests, and leash reactivity in your neighborhood. Let us know where you’re located and what you’re dealing with, and we’ll confirm if we can come to you.
Reading through the FAQs is great, but sometimes you just want to talk to a real person who understands your specific situation. We’re happy to answer your questions, go over the details, and help you find the right path for your dog.
